SPACE CONSTRAINTS

  • The pipe chase wall prevented the use of 24” deep base cabinets all the way around, and prohibited the use of either corner cabinet option

  • Soffit in main kitchen area prevented the use of 40” tall cabinets throughout

  • Clients requested no more than 42” between the two sides of the U-shape

This couple purchased a Philadelphia row home and was renovating the 1970s kitchen prior to moving in.

Outcome

After a few design iterations, the final design incorporated all of the clients’ asks while maximizing the use of drawer storage. We worked around the pipe chase and were able to land on a design that minimized its disruption of the room’s functionality.

Value Add

Appliances -

  • Incorporated the requested beverage fridge, dishwasher and a 36” farmhouse sink

  • Incorporated a built-in microwave to free up counter space

Storage -

  • Incorporated two 90” tall pantries which helped make up for the loss of space with the void corner and needing to down-size one of the drawer cabinets due to the pipe chase

Function -

  • Added additional seating at the peninsula


Feeling -

  • Elevated the kitchen environment with modern front styles and a two-tone aesthetic
